Assessing the Role of Impact and Benefit Agreements

To date, a number of Impact Benefit Agreements (IBA) have been executed between resource companies and Aboriginal communities in Ontario. The role of the IBA was to encourage Aboriginal participation in, and support, for a project. The Aboriginal Forum will explore the IBA, including the challenges and issues, the advantages, and the benefits of negotiating and implementing an IBA; the forum will also look at the IBA in hindsight, sharing lessons learned and best practices. Speakers will share their knowledge and experience to provide some insight into the mysterious IBA.
